An internship in the School of Business is a planned, meaningful work experience for which academic credit is earned. The primary purpose of the Business Internship Program is to allow the student to work directly in an outside business, agency, or organization, appropriate to the student's major, so that he or she may experience a meaningful relationship between the classroom course material and the work environment. A student may enroll in up to 6.0 semester- hours of credit. The first course is BUS 381: Internship I for 3.0 credits and the second course is BUS 481: Internship II for 3.0 credits. The second course is normally a continuation of the first experience with more responsibilities assigned.
Students enrolled through Extended Studies and seeking a business degree from Adams State College may also participate. All of the information and forms for the on-campus students are posted on the following page:
http://www2.adams.edu/academics/business/internship/internship.php
While all of the information and forms above also apply to Extended Studies students, the procedures are slightly different than for on-campus students.
Complete the Information Form and fax it to: (719) 587-7603. Make sure to send it to my attention: Dr. Alberta Coolbaugh.
Once I have the information form, I will verify that you are at least a sophomore and are in good standing academically. You are not allowed to enroll in the courses if you are on academic probation or suspension. The School of Business Department Chair will also sign the form. The internship faculty member will inform you via email that you have been approved.
Once you have been approved for the internship, you may find an internship site and supervisor. You may give them the Supervisor Information on the Web site above. The student will work with the supervisor to complete the academic contract. Once the academic contract is complete and both the student and supervisor have signed it, it is faxed to me for approval.
Once the academic contract is approved, I will email Extended Studies to approve your registration. Register directly with them.
Once you have registered, you will be enrolled in the WebCT online course, where you will participate in Discussions throughout the semester. In addition, you will complete a log of 75 hours showing both time and activities completed during the times.
Finally, you will complete a self-evaluation paper and your supervisor will complete an evaluation. All of this information is included on the forms listed on the Web site above and in the WebCT course.
